Amazon will now also lay off employees, and in a big way.

After Intel, Meta, Microsoft and Google laid off workers, Amazon is following the trend. A total of 17,000 employees are to be laid off, an email from Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said. Employees will be notified on Jan. 18 who will be allowed to stay and who will be laid off.

Two months ago, the company said it would freeze all hiring in 2023 and those who are laid off will also be replaced. Amazon has hired more than 1.5 million employees worldwide.
