The U.S. and EU have warned Malaysia of national security damage and foreign investment if a rollout of 5G networks by Huawei takes place.

The EU and U.S. have warned Malaysia against a 5G network rollout by Huawei. National security would be easily vulnerable to Chinese infrastructure and could plunge the country into deep dependency, the U.S. ambassador to Malaysia said in a letter published by the Financial Times.

The expansion by Huawei could also hurt the economy. The government monopoly is causing concerns among the public about pricing and transparency. Malaysia's business-friendly image would be weakened with this monopoly, hurting competitiveness in the country.
