Google will lay off a total of 12,000 employees starting today, according to a memo from Sundar Pichai to employees. In the US, the first employees have been laid off. Abroad, the decision may take longer, as the corporation must comply with local laws.

Google's advertising decline is a problem for the group. It affects Google Search and YouTube in particular. AI is also part of the problem for Google, as Microsoft, which is also laying off 10,000 employees, is investing in OpenAI to compete with Google.
