Renowned Korean tire manufacturer Hankook Precision Works has recently inaugurated a state-of-the-art 3D Printing Convergence Technology Center at its headquarters in Daejeon. Spanning over 600 square meters, this impressive facility is equipped with the latest 3D printers and testing equipment.
A team of 15 specialists oversees the entire production process, from facility conception to post-processing, utilizing advanced 3D printing technologies.
A primary objective of this technology center is the advancement of Hankook Precision Works in the domain of precision tire components. Special emphasis is placed on the development and mass production of new kerfs - fine grooves on tire surfaces - as well as novel tire shapes.
The growing demand for 3D-printed kerfs, particularly for electric vehicle (EV) tires and high-performance vehicles, enables optimization of product parameters such as noise reduction, firm grip, and superior handling. Interestingly, the 3D-printed tire mold significantly reduces the production process compared to traditional molds and ensures consistent tire quality when used in multi-part puzzle molds.
Hankook Precision Works, renowned for its expertise in casting and precision machining techniques, was established back in 1973. The company aims to progressively increase its investments in 3D printing technologies, seeking to unlock new business opportunities and continue influencing the tire industry significantly.
