Renewable energies are becoming increasingly important due to climate change. But how many solar panels does it take to supply the entire world population? We have calculated it. And it's not as much as you might think.

Electricity consumption in 2018 was 23,398,000 gigawatt hours, which is 23,398,000,000,000 kilowatt hours. One square meter of Tesla solar panels can produce 263 kilowatt hours per year. It follows that we need 89,000 square kilometers to power the entire world (in 2018). Meanwhile, we need just under 100,000 square kilometers if we maintain the same growth rate as before.
