The state budget of Italy proposes 50% tax on profits of energy companies. This is intended to hurt in particular the corporations that have profited from the high oil and gas prices.
In total, these taxes are expected to raise about 2.565 billion euros ($2.66 billion). About 7000 corporations in Italy would be affected. Some of these companies criticize these taxes and would refuse to pay them. However, the tax on profits is only a proposal, which is still pending for approval.
