Hardly anyone knows him, but he plays an important role in the social media world. It's not Mark Zuckerberg, but Jack Dorsey, Twitter co-founder.

Early Life

Jack Dorsey was born on November 19, 1976, and discovered his enthusiasm for computers at an early age. During his high school years, he did a lot of programming and was fascinated by how delivery trucks, cab drivers and other vehicles communicated with each other in real time. When he was fifteen, he wrote software that was still in use decades later in cabs and the like.

Founding of Twitter

Dorsey also didn't do well in college and was kicked out because of it. He then moved to Oakland, California, in 2000 and started a company that would create a website that would generate great reach with the simple application of instant messaging. Dorsey approached a defunct company called Odeo. So the executives, Evan Williams and Biz Stones founded a company called Obvious. Later, however, the name was changed to Twitter. After two weeks of its creation, Dorsey had developed a website that allowed users to post short messages of 140 characters or less. Then in 2006, Jack Dorsey posted his first tweet with the message "Just setting up my twttr." However, he sold this one for $2.9 million as NFT on March 23, 2021.

Currently, Twitter has just under 400 million users and had revenues of $3.82 billion in 2020. Jack Dorsey also currently has a fortune of around $8.4 billion.
