Joe Biden, who was not expected for the meeting last Tuesday, met with Google, Microsoft, OpenAI and Anthropic executives to discuss the current and future risks of artificial intelligence. Addressed were propaganda, misinformation, pornography and fraud.
The President of the United States underlined multiple times that the Executives have a responsibility to develop the technologies. Biden has used ChatGPT himself and has experimented with the tool. He says that companies should ensure social and national security.
Biden also stressed that the government is open to more advanced laws to ensure the safety of AI products. Last February, the government issued a "Bill of Rights" and a "Risk Management Framework" for the industry.
Leading AI developers, such as NVIDIA, OpenAI, Google and Anthropic have agreed to participate in a public evaluation of their systems.
A senior administration official says the U.S. is not in a race with the EU when it comes to AI laws. The administration is working closely with the U.S.-EU Trade and Technology Council.
