Mark Zuckerberg unfazed by Apple's Vision Pro: Meta focuses on cheaper alternative

  • Mark Zuckerberg from Meta remains unfazed by Apple's Vision Pro glasses, emphasizing that Meta has already explored similar technologies and has a different vision for their usage.

  • With its upcoming Quest 3 headset, which will be available at a lower price compared to Apple's Vision Pro, Meta aims to reach a broader user base and focuses on active interaction and new forms of experiences.

  • The competition between Meta and Apple in the virtual and augmented reality space is significant and will have a substantial impact on the market. Meta's previous successes in VR gaming and fitness contrast with Apple's focus on the high-end and general computing user market.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, formerly Facebook, responds calmly to the introduction of Apple's Vision Pro. In an internal employee meeting, he expressed that the device did not present any revolutionary technological breakthroughs that Meta had not already explored.

Instead, he stated that Apple's vision for the device was "not what he envisions." Zuckerberg emphasized that Meta's upcoming Quest 3 headset, priced at $499 compared to Vision Pro's $3,499, will be significantly more affordable, enabling Meta to reach a broader user base.

During his speech, Zuckerberg highlighted the difference in values and visions between the two companies. While Meta's Quest headset aims to enable people to interact in new ways and provide an active experience, Zuckerberg was disappointed by Apple's presentation. He commented that all the demos shown featured individuals sitting alone on a couch, stating that it did not align with his vision of the future of computing.

Meta, formerly Facebook, has been eagerly anticipating Apple's announcement as the company has long been striving for a leadership position in virtual and augmented reality. Recently, Meta announced the Quest 3 headset, although shipments will not begin until the fall.

The company invests substantial amounts into this technology each year, which has raised concerns among some investors. Apple's entry into the market poses a significant competitive threat.

Although Meta has achieved success in VR gaming and fitness, it has struggled to penetrate the high-end and general computing user market that Apple is now targeting. Meta's previous Quest Pro model from last year was widely regarded as a failure.

The outcome of this competition between Meta and Apple remains exciting and is expected to have a significant impact on the virtual reality market.
