Nintendo released its quarterly report today and it showed that the company managed to sell 15 million units of Nintendo Switch, 17% less than the previous year. Also, the annual decline is the third in a row.

The demand for the Nintendo Switch dropped due to the old hardware. The console has now been on the market for 7 years and a successor can be ruled out until next year, Nintendo said.

Nintendo's president, Shuntaro Furukawa, still sees potential for the Nintendo Switch for new users of the hybrid console.

The Japanese company was able to make up for lost sales thanks to "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," beating all expectations. However, profits fell 15% to 504.38 billion yen ($3.73 billion) compared to the previous year and expectations for next year foresee a further 11% drop.
