Oerlikon Balzers, a globally recognized brand of Oerlikon specializing in high-tech surface solutions, has set a new standard with their groundbreaking BALIQ TISINOS PRO PVD coating for machining hardened steels, stainless steels, and high-temperature alloys.
Specifically developed for these materials, the coating reduces tool stress and significantly improves wear resistance in the hard machining of steels with a hardness of up to 70 HRC. Customers benefit from extended tool life and high manufacturing quality.
Oerlikon Balzers' S3p coating technology (Scalable Pulsed Power Plasma) combines the advantages of arc evaporation and magnetron sputtering, pushing the performance limits of conventional HiPIMS coatings. BALIQ coatings, based on this technology, exhibit exceptional smoothness, homogeneous distribution, extreme density and hardness, as well as high wear resistance.
The BALIQ TISINOS PRO PVD coating allows for even higher resilience and wear resistance in the machining of steels up to 70 HRC. Notably, its outstanding smoothness provides uniform protection to all shapes and cutting edges, which is crucial for micro-machining tools. This enables consistent chip evacuation, minimizes scrap, and eliminates costly and time-consuming mechanical post-processing.
The AlTiSiN-based coating resists high thermal loads and safeguards the hard-metal substrate against thermal corrosion and oxidation. With its homogeneous layer thickness distribution, BALIQ TISINOS PRO ensures sharp cutting edges, resulting in reduced cutting forces and enhanced process stability.
The robust performance of BALIQ TISINOS PRO extends the tool life of end mills by an average of up to 50% compared to the previous coating. This leads to reduced tool changes and downtime, resulting in lower overall energy consumption.
Additionally, reconditioning end mills extends their lifespan and reduces the need for new tools by approximately 30%, positioning Oerlikon as a sustainable and resource-efficient provider in the metalworking industry.
Dr. Andreas Reiter, Head of Product Line Tools at Oerlikon Balzers, highlights the further enhanced microstructure of BALIQ TISINOS PRO and its contribution to a stable and reliable machining process. Customers also have the option to have their tools recoated with BALIQ TISINOS PRO, saving costs and promoting sustainability through the conservation of valuable resources.
The innovative BALIQ TISINOS PRO PVD coating will be unveiled for the first time at EMO 2023, the world's leading trade fair for metalworking, taking place from September 18 to 23, 2023, in Hannover.
