LyondelBasell Revolutionizes Injection Molding in the Automotive Industry with CirculenRecover PPC TRC 2179N from Recycled Marine Gear.
LyondelBasell sets new standards in automotive injection molding with the innovative CirculenRecover PPC TRC 2179N. This polypropylene copolymer incorporates recycled marine gear, including fishing nets, and is specifically designed for injection molding.
Through a unique partnership with a German OEM and a company specialized in mechanical recycling, end-of-life marine gear is carefully collected, sorted, and processed into high-quality recyclate. LyondelBasell combines this recyclate with virgin compounds to produce the innovative grade CirculenRecover PPC TRC 2179N.
The injection-molded components made from CirculenRecover PPC TRC 2179N are trim parts used in visible areas for the interior of various car models. This groundbreaking development, used in mass production, enables enhanced sustainability and environmental responsibility in the automotive industry.
"Marine gear as a solution for sustainable cars? Who would have thought?" says Michael Büdinger, Business Development Manager at LyondelBasell. "As part of the European Green Deal, the European Commission is currently examining measures to increase the circularity of vehicles, including the use of up to 25% post-consumer plastic waste. Marine gear will support OEMs in achieving this goal."
LyondelBasell aims to produce two million tons of recycled and renewable-based polymers annually by 2030. The broader Circulen product portfolio was announced in 2021, and eight previous CirculenRecover grades were introduced in August 2023.
