Sega and Rovio have negotiated a deal in which Sega will acquire Rovio for $775 million (€706 million). In a press release, Sega says that Rovio's expertise in the mobile gaming industry is beneficial for Sega to bring its previous titles, such as the Sonic franchise, to smartphones.

Rovio has been struggling since 2019. Since the second Angry Birds movie hit cinemas, the corporation has had trouble building another franchise with a similar magnitude to Angry Birds. The first video game in the Angry Birds series reached 1 billion downloads. In total, Rovio's games have been downloaded 5 billion times, according to Rovio.
