Forbes published an article yesterday with the accusation that TikTok collects location data from individual users. TikTok has now made a statement on Twitter.

Forbes wrote in an article against TikTok that the platform records the location of individuals, such as government officials, activists or other celebrities. Thus, there is said to be a risk that this data could reach the Chinese government, putting the safety of individuals at risk. The sources were verified by Forbes.

TikTok takes position on Twitter on this article and wrote briefly summarized:

  • Forbes report lacks rigor and journalistic integrity

  • TikTok does not collect precise location data of users

  • TikTok has never been a platform to target users

A Forbes spokesperson wrote in a tweet that the news portal is secure in its sources and stands by their reports. ByteDance, the company that owns TikTok, has not denied the allegations, however.
