Sony unveiled the next generation of their VR headsets on February 22, 2022. The design of the goggles and also the controllers has been changed a lot so that it resembles the design of the PS5.

The PlayStation team has mainly focused on the PlayStation 5, so everything has as few edges as possible. According to PlayStation, the headset should not only be a nice decoration for your room, but you should also be able to immerse yourself in the game world. You're supposed to forget that you're using a VR headset and controller at all. The team has also made sure that the VR2 feels comfortable on as many heads as possible. The headband from the last generation will also still be there, as apparently many people liked it. The adjustable field of view and the placement of the stereo headphone jack also remain unchanged.

The VR2 also has an adjustment dial that lets you set the lens distance to optimize visibility for players. The new model will also feel lighter on the head, as they have managed to reduce the overall weight. In addition, the VR2 has a new ventilation design, because you don't want the lens to fog up while you're playing. That's why Yujin Morisawa, senior art director, came up with the idea of making a small slit in the front of the goggles to allow the warm air to escape.
