TSMC is the largest company in all of Asia in terms of market capitalization. The company manufactures semiconductors for almost all devices. This applies to small companies as well as larger ones, such as Apple, Microsoft and NVIDIA.
China has long thought that the island state of Taiwan belonged to the People's Republic, but this is not the case. Therefore, an invasion of the island becomes more and more conceivable from day to day. Especially with the visit of Nancy Pelosi.
It was recommended by China that the Speaker of the House of Representatives should not visit the island, otherwise there would be political consequences. Now Nancy Pelosi is doing it after all. During Tuesday, August 2, she is scheduled to visit the island and meet the president of Taiwan the following day.
If China were to launch the invasion now, this would have consequences all over the world. This is because TSMC has its headquarters in Taiwan. But if the supply chains are now interrupted, then there would be a chip shortage like we already had in 2020 - overpriced chips.
