Twitter introduces "government funded" label for Chinese accounts too

Twitter today introduced the "government funded" label for Chinese profiles as well.

Twitter today published the label "Government Funded Media" and "State Affiliate" for certain state-supported news media. Chinese media, journalists and radio stations now also carry this label.

CBC and NPR have also received this label. Since then, the two outlets have stopped posting their stories on Twitter.

The goal with this label is to be as truthful and accurate as possible in classifying the media, Musk said.

This week, Twitter also took away its blue tick from many public figures. Bill Gates, Donald Trump, the Pope and Kim Kardashian have all been affected. In a tweet, Musk wrote that "Twitter's current rich-or- poor system is bullshit. Power to the people! Blue for $8/month."
